Project Management Group has become the first firm in the Republic of Ireland to have its graduate engineer training scheme accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Project Management Group (PM), a provider of project management, engineering design and consultancy services, has become the first firm in the Republic of Ireland to have its graduate engineer training scheme accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Only accredited companies can train engineers towards Chartered status - the highest professional qualification for an engineer - and PM received its recognition on Friday 22nd July.

PM is the first company in the Republic of Ireland to receive this prestigious accolade and have accredited schemes with the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).

As Europe suffers from a severe shortage of skilled engineers, PM decided to focus on training its young engineers and buck the trend.

Joe Leonard, PM's HR Manager said: "It's really important that all our engineers are aware of the benefits of training and the advanced qualifications available to them".

"It's imperative that companies encourage their engineering employees to develop their skills".

"We have been doing this for years and have found that it not only increases employee loyalty and productivity, but that we are benefiting from some of the best technical expertise in Ireland".

"We are proud to be the forerunners in Ireland for providing quality training, and hope that our example will encourage other companies to become accredited".

Sandra Mulligan from the IMechE added: "The IMechE upholds very high standards to ensure the professional engineers of tomorrow receive the best training and support today".

"The scheme run by Project Management is a fantastic opportunity for their engineers to develop strong technical ability together with good business understanding and leadership skills", she added.
