One of Scotland's leading engineering firms has just received top accreditation for its graduate training scheme from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

One of Scotland's leading engineering firms, involved in major projects from Royal Navy warships to Heathrow's Terminal 5, has just received top accreditation for its graduate training scheme from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Babcock Engineering Services (BES) in Rosyth was accredited with the IMechE Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) on Tuesday 30th August.

Only accredited companies can train engineers towards Chartered status (the highest professional qualification an engineer can achieve).

BES delivers high-value engineering and technical services to public and commercial clients, operating through four focused business units located in Rosyth, Scotland.

Babcock's mechanical engineers are involved in refitting Royal Navy warships to designing and creating the modular units at London's Heathrow Terminal 5 project.

Training Manager, Phil Crichton who works with the young engineers said: "Babcock is an engineering playground".

"Our engineers here can learn so much from the variety of projects we work on from refitting warships to being a pivotal player in the formation of modular units at Terminal 5".

"These opportunities, coupled with the skills and training received on the MPDS ensure we are putting out some of the country's best engineers".

IMechE Regional Manager, Sandra Mulligan, added: "I am delighted to present Babcock with their MPDS accreditation".

"The IMechE upholds very high standards to ensure the professional engineers of tomorrow receive the best training and support today".

"The scheme run by Babcock is a fantastic opportunity for their engineers to develop strong technical ability together with good business understanding and leadership skills", she added.
