Some of the country's most inspirational young engineers will reveal their cutting-edge projects to Government and industry next week at a parliamentary reception hosted by the IMechE.

Some of the country's most inspirational young engineers will reveal their cutting-edge projects to Government and industry on 8th February at a parliamentary reception hosted by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Hundreds of MPs, business leaders, students, engineers and academics will converge at the IMechE, One Birdcage Walk, Westminster for the event, "Inspiring tomorrow's engineers".

Phil Hope, Minister for Skills will be guest speaker on the night.

Interactive exhibits will allow MPs to see for themselves how the engineering projects work.

They will include: a 4m-long rocket which is travelling down from Cheshire; a robot football team created by engineering students at Warwick University; Lego robots from missile firm MBDA; and a special display by the Science Museum.

Andrew Ives, President of the IMechE, said: "We, at the IMechE, take the issue of education in engineering very seriously".

"We invest in this country's future engineers because we believe engineering is our future".

"Our Government has a huge role to play in promoting the importance of engineering and science in our schools and by coming along to this event; we hope to convince them to do even more".

The IMechE is the leading global voice for mechanical engineering and has invested and supported in young engineers to build the best career they can since it was established in 1847.

UCAS statistics show the number of students studying mechanical engineering degrees has risen sharply in the past five years and more than any other engineering discipline.

To encourage education on engineering in schools, the IMechE has produced a variety of literature including its hugely successful "Be a pioneer" booklet which explains the many roles of a mechanical engineer.
