Some of the country's leading railways engineers will meet at a seminar in Nottingham from 6th to 8th September 2006 to try and tackle the industry's challenges head-on "Working together for a better railway: breaking down the barriers" has been organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and key speakers at the Nottingham University event include Andrew Lezala (Chief Executive of Metronet and Chairman of the IMechE Railway Division) and Adrian Shooter, Chairman of Chiltern Railways

The two day event this year has been set up by the young members of the IMechE.

Engineers will debate the problems facing the industry, how to run a successful passenger railway and the issues surrounding freight travel which has seen a 50% increase in traffic levels since privatisation.

Cliff Perry, Vice Chairman of the IMechE Railway Division said: "Rail transport affects everyone and we look forward to discussing some of the most important issues facing the business today".

"With some of the UK's leading railway figures at the seminar it is sure to spark a lively debate".

"It will also give engineers working within the industry a rare chance to share best practice techniques and see how areas like passenger transport can be improved".

Delegates will also be given the opportunity to go on a tour to Brush Traction, in Loughborough, where trains are assembled and tested before they become rolling stock.
