Aerospace company Goodrich (Birmingham) has been accredited with the IMechE Monitored Professional Development Scheme at its York Road manufacturing plant in Birmingham.

Leading aerospace company, Goodrich (Birmingham), has been accredited with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' (IMechE) Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) at its York Road manufacturing plant in Birmingham.

The firm employs more than 22,000 people worldwide in over 90 facilities across 16 countries was presented with the certificate in recognition of its graduate training programme and for supporting young engineers and the engineering profession.

The MPDS scheme graduates enrolled on is a four-year programme which provides engineering graduates with a structured programme of training and development to enable them to take the necessary steps to become a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng).

The scheme is recognised nationally as being one of the most thorough training programmes for young engineers.

The IMechE successfully phased out the paper version of the scheme in favour of an electronic version last year.

Steve Gasser, IMechE Regional Manager, said: "With this training scheme, the IMechE is supporting industry with a supply of high quality graduates".

"University students actively seek organisations such as Goodrich, which facilitate an MPDS, as the programme helps cement the foundations that will eventually lead to CEng/IEng status".

He added: "Goodrich and the IMechE have a very productive working relationship, the accreditation of their training scheme indicates the importance that the organisation places on the development of engineers".

There are currently 20 employees on the MPDS scheme at Goodrich in Birmingham which aims to train graduates with the necessary skills to enhance the company's success in terms of innovation, professional, technical and business competence.

Peter Sheldon, Engineering Manager at Goodrich Birmingham, said: "The high demands of the industry rely on the quality of its engineering staff".

"Receiving accreditation from the IMechE demonstrates the vital contribution made by engineers to the company's future and prosperity".

"The MPDS ensures that our engineers become well rounded individuals who can deal with a variety of complex issues".
