Interfleet Technology is assisting the Docklands Light Railway with the procurement of 55 new articulated vehicles.

International rail consultancy, Interfleet Technology is assisting the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) with the procurement of 55 new articulated vehicles, a project which involves Interfleet's Derby and German offices working closely together to ensure high construction standards and the timely delivery of the vehicles DLR has specifically taken the benefit of Interfleet's German office to act as resident site engineer for the construction of the vehicles, which are being built by Bombardier at its plant in Bautzen, Germany

Here, Interfleet's Senior Consultant Roland Pfitzner, is responsible for monitoring all stages of planning, production, testing and delivery to ensure the vehicles meet the high standards required by DLR and, in turn, the system's operating franchisee Serco.

The site engineering is led by Senior Engineer Richard Ordish, who works from Interfleet's Derby office in the UK.

Ordish is interfacing with both Interfleet's German office staff and DLR, bringing to the project the benefit of knowledge gained during previous and ongoing new build and resident engineering assignments.

He says of the DLR project: "Interfleet's London and Derby offices have been working with DLR for a number of years".

"This latest project is particularly exciting for us as it enables us to show how our regional offices can work effectively together to deliver excellent results".

"We have 14 regional offices around the world, which regularly work together".

"We find that this gives us a huge competitive advantage as we can offer a greater diversity of skills to clients combined with unique regional understanding of rail markets, systems and processes across the world".

Both Ordish and Pfitzner and their respective teams take on this latest project with a wealth of experience, with Pfitzner possessing extensive skills and experience in the field of supervision and acceptance particularly for light rail vehicles and Ordish likewise, having worked as an Interfleet independent project engineer for several years on the procurement of the new Class 3000 vehicles for Northern Ireland Railways.

The new vehicles form part of the expansion of the Docklands Light Railway, under Transport for London's current GBP 10 billion investment programme.

This includes plans to increase the existing fleet of 94 articulated vehicles with the addition of 55 new vehicles.

These units are due for delivery between May 2007 and October 2009.
