This year's Altair Technology Conference will take place on 2nd November at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon.
A number of pneumatics companies have reacted to this threat, developing their own electromechanical linear actuator product ranges.
These companies include; Festo, Hoerbiger Origa and SMC Pneumatics.
However, this market is still dominated by mechanical companies who have the large majority of the market share as shown in the figure.
Price erosion and improvements in performance now mean that, more and more of the vast pneumatics market is being addressed by electromechanical linear actuators.
Major benefits provided by the replacement of pneumatic actuators with electromechanical linear actuators, include: significant savings made by reducing unnecessary energy consumption within plants; major improvements in control and flexibility, especially beneficial for multipositional tasks; and no health and environmental issues caused by high noise levels.
