Bearing selection made even easier
INA Bearing Company has upgraded its Medias Professional CD-ROM for bearing selection.
Engineers who have used the previous versions of the Medias Professional CD-ROM for bearing selection have been full of praise for its technical superiority and its ease of use, and now INA Bearing Company is publishing Medias Professional Version 3.0 INA has also added the CD content to the INA website, so everybody can benefit from instant access to this valuable resource
All ranges of rotary and linear bearings are included, with both plain bearings and rolling element bearings, as well as accessories and lubricants.
Version 3.0 benefits from a complete revision of the software and the user interface, taking advantage of XML technology and incorporating a powerful search engine.
There is also a new, user-friendly navigation system that makes the CD or website as easy to browse as a conventional paper-based catalogue.
At the same time as reworking the software, INA has taken the opportunity to align the bearing classifications with the e-class standard, and these have been agreed with other leading bearing manufacturers.
But the software really comes into its own when calculations are required; the routines that are embedded within the software are extremely powerful, helping the user to predict bearing life as accurately as possible.
Although the calculations are complex, there is a comprehensive online help system that guides the user through every step of the process.
In addition, a separate section assists with lubricant selection, thereby ensuring that the bearing's life is not compromised by incorrect or inadequate lubrication.
The new version of Medias Professional includes a much-expanded collection of application examples.
There are now dozens of these, covering a wide variety of industries and all product groups.
Once a bearing has been selected, the user can export 2D CAD files in either DXF or DWG format.
Because of the size of 3D CAD files, these are not directly accessible via the CD or the web site, though INA will immediately e-mail the files in the desired format upon request.
Another handy feature of the software is that it allows the user to add products to a shopping basket so that the subsequent purchasing procedure can be streamlined.
Users will appreciate the way in which the new program runs directly from the CD, with no need to load any software onto the PC (note that for a typical PC with internet connection, it is likely that the CD version will run slightly faster than the online version, depending on local conditions).
Basic system requirements are a PC with Microsoft Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4.x, 2000 or XP with a 233MHz processor or better, together with at least 128Mbyte of RAM.
In addition, Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator 4.0 or above is required.
Whether the CD or online version is being used, there is easy access to a list of contacts who can provide local engineering support.
INA sees Medias Professional as an additional resource for designers, and not a replacement for traditional technical support and applications engineers. Request a free brochure from Schaeffler (UK) ...
