Bearings are key to monorail guidance
systems

Monorail guidance systems are frequently specified for linear motion applications where there are particular requirements for accuracy, performance or compact bearing arrangements.

Monorail guidance systems are frequently specified for linear motion applications where there are particular requirements for accuracy, performance or compact bearing arrangements Thanks to their ability to carry loads from all directions - and moments about all axes - monorail guidance systems are extremely versatile

One of the widest ranges of monorail guidance systems is now available from INA, and the company also offers some novel accessories.

Depending on the application requirements, designers might specify monorail systems incorporating two, four or six rows of balls or, for heavily loaded applications, four rows of rollers.

All these alternatives are offered by INA in a variety of sizes and configurations.

For example, in addition to standard, long, wide and narrow carriages, INA also lists short, high, low, narrow/short, long/wide, high/long versions, and others with expanded interchangeability.

Most are available with a choice of accuracies and preload classes, as well as the optional Corrotect plating that gives improved corrosion protection in harsh environments.

Further protection can be provided through the use of optional wipers and seals.

Correct lubrication is vital to ensure the longevity of any bearing system, and INA's ball monorail carriages benefit from enlarged lubricant reservoirs that often negate the need for relubrication during the lifetime of the equipment.

However, if additional lubricant is required, the carriages can be specified with extended lubricant reservoir units, grease nipples, a port for pumped lubricant, or metered-dose lubricating devices.

As well as the extensive range of carriages outlined above, INA also presents its customers with a choice of guideways.

The main options relate to the fixings, which may be from above or below, and the type of covering for the fixing holes.

In addition, some side-mounted rails can be supplied with a helical gear rack cut into one side.

Other accessories for INA's monorail guidance systems include guideway clamps, braking units, clamping units, damping carriages and positional measuring systems.

With this breadth of choice, customers can specify the optimum monorail system for virtually any linear motion application.

More details about INA's monorail guidance systems is available in the form of a new design guide that includes information about bearing principles, how to design a bearing arrangement, installing bearings, lubricating bearings and calculating life and load safety factors.
