Schaeffler updates HR1 rolling-bearing catalogue

A Schaeffler (UK) product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 18, 2009

Schaeffler UK has published a revised 1,600-page HR1 rolling-bearing catalogue, including features, dimensions and load ratings of more than 40,000 different products.

The catalogue includes sections on balls, needle rollers, cylindrical rollers and rolling elements.

Schaeffler UK has published a revised 1,600-page HR1 rolling-bearing catalogue, including features, dimensions and load ratings of more than 40,000 different products.

Changes to previous catalogues include: updated bearing rating life calculations and other performance data; updated friction factors and increases in operating temperature; updated lubrication overview, including new information on Schaeffler's Arcanol rolling-bearing greases; information on Schaeffler's Cronitect steel for bearings; additional sizes and designs of bearings; and new bearing systems and components for fluid technology and food and packaging applications.

The Technical Principles section of the catalogue now includes expanded and adjusted bearing rating life data in accordance with ISO 281:2007.

The performance data (basic load ratings, fatigue limit load, limiting speed and reference speed) of some bearing products has been recalculated.

Bearing factors (friction and increases in temperature) for tapered roller-bearings and self-aligning ball bearings have also been updated.

Schaeffler has added additional sizes and designs of its X-life bearings, including new cylindrical roller-bearings, tapered roller-bearings, spherical roller-bearings and axial spherical roller-bearings.

A section on equipment and services for the mounting and maintenance of rolling bearings now includes Schaeffler's FAG Procheck online condition-monitoring system.

More than 150 pages of the catalogue are devoted to the technical principles of rolling bearings, helping design engineers to size and select the appropriate bearings for their intended application.

The Technical Principles section includes information on: fatigue theory; dynamic and static load-carrying capacities of bearings; variable loads and speeds; life ratings; rigidity and deflection; friction values; limiting speeds and thermally safe operating speeds; lubrication principles; design of bearing arrangements; and information on fitting and dismantling.

The guide helps engineers decide which factors must be considered at the design stage, the tolerances that adjacent assemblies should provide and how various bearings can be effectively sealed.

The guide provides information on bearing service-life calculations, temperatures and load-carrying capacities.

It also explains which lubricants are best suited to different bearing types and how these bearings should be mounted and maintained.

The catalogue covers various types of rolling bearings, including: cylindrical, tapered, spherical and needle roller-bearings; track rollers; ball bearings and angular-contact ball bearings; bearings for screw drives; insert bearings (housed units); spindle bearings; drawn cup needle roller-bearings; bearing housings and accessories.

The HR1 catalogue is available in German, English and Italian.

A Spanish version will be published before the end of March 2009.

Chinese, Russian and other European and Asian-language versions will soon be available.
