Optimiser evolves improved designs
A new optimiser engine, which allows for the specification of discrete values for variables, has been added to the latest version of Infolytica's OptiNet software.
Modelling software offers Vista compatibility
Infolytica will be hosting several free web-based seminars during September for anyone interested in learning more about the newest release of MagNet.
An important feature of the software is its ability to handle complex objective functions, together with large numbers of variables and constraints.
Four precut case studies are supplied with the initial release, and details of these are also available for viewing in the gallery section of the company website.
Three of the case studies are from electromagnetics, and the first covers the minimisation of mass in a loudspeaker, while maintaining a prescribed average airgap flux density.
The second elecromagnetics case study concerns the minimisation of cogging torque in a brushless DC motor subject to a specified running torque being maintained, and the third covers the shape optimisation of a die press creating a uniform radial field in a magnetiser.
The final case study is an electrostatics example, exploring the arrangement of grading rings in a surge arrestor, with the aim to even out and minimise the electric field stress in the resistors.
The optimisation process features a convenient updated graphical display of changes in all the variables and objective function.
A report covering all valid designs is also generated, and all designs may be individually viewed.
The report gives timings, as well as values of all variables and the objective function, and the sensitivity of the design to particular parameter variation may be examined.
A further useful feature is the ability to halt the optimisation procedure at any stage, and then to restart it.
Enhancements to existing software include added 3D thermal capability in ThermNet, covering conduction, convection, and radiation, with the existing coupled facility allowing time-dependent magnetic modelling with temperature dependent materials.
A new version of the 3D solid modeller has also been added to all the principle packages, giving faster and better 3D meshing and an updated file-import capability.
