Servos provide best of both worlds

An Inmoco product story

The new Danaher Motion AKM range of servomotors offer OEMs the best of both worlds - the exact specifications of a custom solution with the faster delivery and lower cost of a standard product.

The new Danaher Motion AKM range of servomotors from Inmoco offer OEMs the best of both worlds - the exact specifications of a custom solution with the faster delivery times and lower cost of a standard catalogue product.

The motors are manufactured in a special production process that facilitates the delivery of different frame lengths, winding versions, fixing methods (IEC-NEMA-JIS), various feedback systems and connection methods, all in the shortest possible time.

The AKM Servomotors provide unprecedented choice and flexibility enabling the OEM to select from a range of over 12,000 standard models all of which are optimised to fit specific application needs, UL, cUL, TUV listed and CE marked, and designed for virtually any global voltage - up 480V AC and 680V DC.

The advanced electromagnetic design of the AKM motors enables them to provide more power with higher acceleration and torque in a smaller footprint than comparable sized servomotors.

This allows OEMs to reduce their overall machine size while increasing machine throughput and reliability.

Motor performance is also enhanced by low cogging, which ensures smooth performance at low speeds, and by low inertia rotors which provide highly dynamic performance, reducing overall machine cycle times by enabling set speeds to be reached quickly with maximum precision.

The AKM range covers seven frame sizes, providing maximum continuous torque in the range from 0.2 to 53Nm and speeds to 8000rev/min.

The servomotors are of rugged construction, enabling them to withstand the rigours of the factory floor with minimum levels of maintenance.

They feature balanced electromagnetics, eliminating the side forces and vibration common to competitive motors that employ unbalanced magnetic designs.

In addition, a design that employs non-overlapping coils in the motor winding (Class F insulation) ensures dramatically reduced potential for phase-to-phase shorting.

Last but not least, the motor assemblies are potted and IP65 sealed to provide rugged durability in harsh applications.

Complementing the high performance and robustness of the AKM Series is the motors' ability to be integrated easily into OEM machines.

The design characteristics that make this possible are twofold: optimisation of the motor windings for use with Danaher Motion's S600, S200 and S300 ranges of high performance servo drives, and the number and type of connection and feedback options that are available.

Included in the connectivity options are rugged rotatable IP65 rated connectors, low cost Molex plugs and single connectors/plugs offering combined power and feedback to minimise motor and cable costs.

The same number of options also extends to feedback devices: standard fitment on AKM versions being a two-pole hollow-shaft resolver, with commutating encoder or smart feedback (SFD) devices also available.

Also helping the AKM motors to meet the widest range of specific OEM requirements are a series of options, including special shaft and mounting variations, shaft seals, connection versions and keyways.

In addition, the servomotors can be supplied with a fail-safe brake, which locks the motor shaft when power is removed, securing the external load.
