The Wizard enables users to attach a motor, press a button and it will automatically determine the electrical and mechanical characteristics of the motor.
Inmoco's Motor Integration Wizard is taking the time, effort and cost out of wiring third-party motors to its Ormec range of SMLC servo controllers.
The Wizard enables users to attach a motor, press a button and it will automatically determine the electrical and mechanical characteristics of the motor that are crucial for high-performance motion control.
Using the Motor Integration Wizard, parameters such as motor resistance, inductance, pole count, inertia and many other elements are measured automatically.
These values are used to mathematically model the system in order to derive optimal gains for a critically damped response.
This provides the highest possible current loop, velocity loop and position loop bandwidths, while maintaining stability, all at the press of a button.
The Motor Integration Wizard also takes the headache out of wiring the motor to the drive.
This is a cost saver, as illustrated by the example of a typical three-phase motor with incremental encoder feedback.
With this motor set-up there are three motor phases, two differential encoder signals and three differential hall signals.
Moreover, there are hundreds of permutations as to how these signals can be wired to the drive and only one is correct.
The wizard will automatically energise these signals and determine if they are wired up correctly.
If the motor is wired incorrectly, the wizard will indicate which wires need to be swapped, saving considerable time for the drive system installer.
The Motor Integration Wizard is designed for use with Ormec's SLMC (servowire motion and logic controller).
This unit reduces costs, installation time and system size by replacing combinations of proprietary motion controllers and PLCs.
The SMLC provides cost-effective integrated motion solutions from one to sixteen axes.
Offering a small installation footprint and providing advanced features such as Pentium 32bit processors, IEEE1394b FireWire networking and Ethernet connectivity, the SMLC is a system that can control an entire machine.
The SMLC product family offers models with one, three, eight and 16 axes of control, all of which provide a single-box solution.
They combine ORMEC Soft Motion technology with all five IEC 61131-3 programming languages, PLCopen motion function blocks and industry standard protocols for I/O and network connectivity, into a powerful, compact control package that reduces wiring complexity, panel space requirements and programming effort.
