Adhesive meets medical device needs

An Intertronics product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 9, 2007

DYMAX MD 1161-M is a light curing adhesive that provides a single solution for all the bonding needs of medical device designers.

Design engineers for disposable medical devices strive to use materials that offer the best performance.

Unfortunately, this can create assembly challenges in the manufacturing process.

The bonding options for various combinations of dissimilar substrates such as polycarbonate, stainless steel, PVC and polyurethane are limited and typically require the use of multiple adhesives or assembly methods.

DYMAX MD 1161-M is a light curing adhesive that provides a single solution for all these combinations.

DYMAX 1161-M permits engineers to use the best performing materials for their product designs and at the same time optimise their assembly process.

It is a multi-purpose adhesive which can be used for bonding needles, tube sets, reservoirs and many other disposable medical devices.

The fluorescent properties of DYMAX 1161-M allow for immediate inline quality control with vision inspection systems.

DYMAX 100% solvent-free UV-curable medical device adhesives are USP Class VI approved and ISO10993 certified to biocompatibility standards.

DYMAX UV curable medical device adhesives cure in seconds upon exposure to UV and/or visible light to form clear, high-strength bonds to metal, glass and a variety of plastics.

UV curable adhesives are excellent for anaesthesia mask assembly, needle bonding and numerous other medical disposable devices.

Fluorescing grades of UV curable medical device adhesives are available for in-line quality control inspection.

Fast and deep cure is achieved upon exposure to UV and visible light.

This light curing technology is ideal for automated assembly, especially with high throughput manufacturing.

The technology offers speed of process and cost efficiency advantages.

Due to the wide range of viscosities in the DYMAX MD adhesives line the user can rely on easy dispensing and proper flow characteristics.

The adhesives are completely solvent-free and biocompatible.

For example, design and manufacturing engineers of catheter devices are often challenged with bonding two or more substrates.

In this case, the bonding requirements are for various combinations of dissimilar substrates such as polycarbonate, Nylon, PET, acrylic, Pebax and stainless steel.

DYMAX MD 209-CTH light curing adhesive provides a single solution for all these combinations.
