Inertial Aerosystems has released a new low-cost compact unit for measuring motion in three dimensions.

Inertial Aerosystems has released a new low-cost compact unit (58 x 58 x 22mm, 50g) for measuring motion in three dimensions.

Designated the MTi, the unit's internal DSP uses real-time algorithms to produce stable outputs of heading, roll and pitch plus angular rate and linear acceleration.

The motion sensors are MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes, and a solid state magnetometer measures heading.

Output is RS232, with optional RS422 or analogue 0-3.3V, with a power supply of 4.5-15V at 360mW, and an operating temperature of 0 to +55C.

A software development kit eases integration in OEM or system applications.

The MTi has been designed for applications such as control of autonomous or remote controlled mobile robots, and unmanned marine, land and aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Other application areas include stabilisation of pipeline tools, cameras etc, for purposes such as inspection, survey and security.
