Low cost microprocessor controlled compass module has a customisable co-ordinate system for mounting in any desired orientation.

New from Inertial Aerosystems, the HMR3500 is a low cost microprocessor controlled compass module with a customisable co-ordinate system for mounting in any desired orientation.

Three anisotropic magnetoresistive sensors and three accelerometers combine to provide compass heading as well as pitch and roll angles.

Included are provisions for hard and soft iron correction algorithms to handle magnetic distortion effects.

A world magnetic model feature is provided to automatically add declination angle corrections for reference to true north.

This innovative product has less than 1 degree nominal heading accuracy with 0.1 degree resolution, with update rate up to 26Hz, +/-89 degree pitch and roll with 360 degrees continuous roll capability.

Operating temperature range is -40 to +85C, and the module needs only 5V DC.

Ideal where space and weight are at a premium, the printed circuit version measures 39.88 x 50 x 13.21mm and weighs 17g.

The device is also available as a development kit in an enclosed black aluminium case with cable assembly and software, weighing 85g.

This versatile product can be used in navigation, dead reckoning, personal and onboard navigation, and measuring tilt/movement of machinery, vessels, buildings, robotics and unmanned vehicles The HMR3500 has applications in the engineering, electronic, manufacturing and processing industries.
