Inertial enhances MTi and MTi-G systems

An Inertial Aerosystems UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jan 14, 2009

Inertial Aerosystems has announced the availability of enhanced performance versions of the MTi and MTi-G miniature gyro-operated Attitude and Heading Reference Systems (AHRS).

The enhancements are derived from a new sensor fusion algorithm and hardware improvements.

The MTi provides drift free 3D orientation, as well as calibrated 3D acceleration, rate of turn and magnetic heading at a 100Hz data rate.

The MTi provides drift-free 3D orientation, as well as calibrated 3D acceleration, rate of turn and magnetic heading at a 100Hz data rate.

The enhancements include improved heading performance, especially within a magnetic disturbed environment, and better data integrity during periodic accelerations and very slow rotations.

Gyroscopes with 50 per cent lower signal noise and an option for an 18g accelerometer range have also been included.

The MTI-G has all the performance of the MTi and includes an integrated GPS, static pressure sensor and Kalman filtering.

Improved use of the GPS signal has resulted in better orientation performance.

Weighing around 68g and measuring 58 x 58 x 33mm (MTi-G), the units are suitable for use where space and weight are at a premium, and can operate in tough environments within a temperature range of -20 to 55C.

Typical applications can be found in the robotics, aerospace, automotive and marine industries, as well as pedestrian navigation and virtual reality.
