Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 25, 2009

Inertial Aerosystems has introduced an enhanced version of its MTi-G product.

This device, manufactured by Netherlands-based Xsens Motion Technology, is a MEMS attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) with integrated GPS.

Inertial Aerosystems has introduced an enhanced version of their MTi-G product - a MEMS Attitude and Heading Reference System with integrated GPS.

The unit provides accurate horizontal and vertical position, velocity and 3D orientation estimates.

It incorporates an internal ultra-low-power signal processor and a real-time Kalman filter.

The MTi-G has a GPS receiver which features 50 tracking channels instead of 16.

This gives a faster GPS recovery after short signal outages in challenging environments.

In the case of the GPS fix being lost, the GPS receiver will use all 50 channels to restore the fix.

The MTi-G has a faster and more stable GPS fix.

The velocity output accuracy is improved by using carrier phase tracking.

The GPS receiver is prepared for Galileo L1 open service.

Able to operate in tough environments, in a temperature range of 20-55C, the MTi-G weighs only 68g and measures 58 x 58 x 33mm.

It is suitable for navigation and control of vehicles, other objects, and even humans.

Applications include aerospace, automotive, robotics and marine industries as well as pedestrian navigation and virtual reality.
