An Inertial Aerosystems UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 10, 2009

Inertial Aerosystems has introduced a low-cost, high-quality, solid-state angular rotation sensor intended primarily for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Designated the Horizon unit, it is manufactured by US-based Systron Donner Inertial.

The Horizon unit incorporates a one-piece micromachined vibrating quartz tuning fork sensing element

The Horizon unit incorporates a one-piece micromachined vibrating quartz tuning fork sensing element

It incorporates a one-piece micro-machined vibrating quartz tuning fork sensing element that provides stability and reliability over temperature, with high resistance to shock and vibration.

Operating from a 12VDC power supply at less than 20mA, with internal power regulation, it provides a simple output interface with a high-level (0 to +/-5VDC) output signal and a 2.5VDC reference to enable the differential monitoring of the output.

Standard ranges are +/-90, +/-100 or +/-200 degrees per second, with an input voltage of 8VDC to 15VDC.

The unit weighs 60g and measures 25.4mm x 50.5mm x 25.9mm.

Other features include low drift and fast start-up, while low noise offers higher accuracy and resolution.

This product is suitable where space and weight are at a premium and can be customised to various permutations.

Applications include antenna stabilisation systems, the GPS augmentation of logistics vehicles and agricultural production, factory automation, medical/orthopaedic and instrumentation.
