Wireless SS-RTU Provides SCADA Link
Wireless SS-RTU Provides Low Cost, Low Maintenance SCADA Link.
Industrial Control Links recently introduced the Wireless SS-RTU, a new generation of Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) that combines the traditional remote I/O functions of an RTU with a built-in spread spectrum radio The SS-RTU can serve as a "standard" Modbus Slave RTU in a radio-based SCADA system, or as a Wireless "I/O Bridge" that "mirrors" analog and digital signals between two locations, from a few hundred yards to miles apart

Easy to use interface for any automation project
The new SCADA Portal from ABB is an easy-to-use graphical interface for controlling remote processes from small, standalone applications to five clients and up to 10,000 I/O per server
Easy installation, low cost, wide temperature range and SCADA software compatibility make the SS-RTU a great choice for small I/O count SCADA systems and wireless I/O applications.
The SS-RTU avoids installation costs of trenching and cabling and offers license-free communications with no recurring telephone charges.
By using wireless technology instead of wiring or phone lines, the SS-RTU provides more reliability and reduces maintenance.
It features "plug-and-play" integration with popular SCADA software and can provide radio capabilities to non-radio enabled process equipment.
Extremely low power consumption makes the SS-RTU ideal for solar and battery-backed applications.
An ideal solution for monitoring tanks and lift stations, and remote control and monitoring of well pumps, the SS-RTU supports "on-exception" reporting and "store-and-forward" message repeating for optimal radio operation.
In addition to simple I/O, the SS-RTU includes pulse/DI cycle totalization, runtime totalization and rate calculation to simplify billing based on flow or wattage, and maintenance monitoring based on cycles or runtime.
Key features of the Wireless SS-RTU include: * Point-to-point "I/O Bridge" operation or full SCADA system support, up to several hundred sites * Up to 20 mile point-to-point range, or further with built-in store-and-forward repeater functions * Provides 2 Analog Inputs and 2 Analog Outputs for level and flow sensors and control valves * Provides 4 Digital Inputs/Outputs for switches, relays, motor starters and indicator lights * Conventional polling or "on-exception" operation helps minimize power use and radio traffic * Easy field setup plus "over-the-air" diagnostics and configuration to minimize support costs * Very low power; compatible with solar-only and battery-backed applications.
