The PIIPM15P12D007 is a servo and motor drive module, rated at 1200V 15A, which includes the bridge, brake and inverter (BBI) functions into one unit.

The PIIPM15P12D007 is a servo and motor drive module, rated at 1200V 15A, which includes the bridge, brake and inverter (BBI) functions into one unit The PIIPM15P12D007 expands the iNTERO family of motor and servo drive modules, and is a closed-loop control building block for high performance induction and brushless motor and servo drives

Motion and servo controls are used in precision industrial machinery such as assembly robots, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing and semiconductor fabrication.

Other applications include conveyor belts, air conditioning systems and elevators.

Protecting the motor from damage is of primary importance in motion control applications.

Protection circuits in the new "007" module are designed to disable PWM operation, and use a "double path" technique that assures redundancy and maximum safety.

Desaturation, overvoltage and fault protection are enabled by IR's new IR2214SS high voltage ICs.

The BBI module includes high performance sensing and protection circuits, such as current-sensing with greater than 10kHz bandwidth and a latency of less than 5us on two motor phase outputs.

Full protection from line-to-line and ground-fault failures, phase-to-phase, phase-to-ground, phase-to-DC bus and leg shoot-through are included, as well as under- and overvoltage on the DC bus.

An embedded flyback power supply generates all internal supplies from a single 15V input.

In addition, all fault conditions are fed back to the DSP for software control after the fault conditions are detected.

The new module features an internally programmable TMS320LF2406A family DSP (40MIPS) with a 64Kbit IIC EEPROM to store calibration data, freeing memory resources from the DSP.

Interfaces include a controller area network (CAN), JTAG IEEE1149.1 standard port for program downloading and debugging, an asynchronous, isolated 2.5Mbit/s serial port and a synchronous-isolated 10Mbit/s serial port for DSP communication and programming.

Dr Francesco Vallone, International Rectifier Product Marketing Manager, said, "The new '007' device includes servomotor power stages as well as a programmable digital core and its interfaces, and is intended to be the fundamental building block for every digital motion control application".
