Purdue University is to expand its use of IronCAD software by adding an additional 300 seats to its existing installation.

The extra seats will be used to expand the use of 3D technology into a broader range of technical classes in the areas of mechanical, aeronautical and industrial design.

It is expected that over 700 students per semester will benefit from this expanded use of IronCAD in classes that cover such areas as production design and specification, strength and materials, CAD in the enterprise, FEA geometry creation and casting design.

Bruce Harding, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) states: "IronCAD has become our CAD system of choice because it represents the best mix of power and usability.

Even though we have access to major CAD systems, including Catia, Unigraphics, Pro/Engineer, SolidEdge and SolidWorks, IronCAD remains our primary teaching system.

Over the next two years, we fully expect IronCAD to be incorporated into virtually every technical class.

In 20 years of CAD-based instruction, IronCAD is the first 3D CAD system students and faculty actually enjoy using".

Shaun Murphy, VP of Marketing at IronCAD, states, "It has been very gratifying to see the success that the Purdue University programme has achieved.

We are looking forward to working with Purdue University to extend that success even further.

Training the engineering talent of tomorrow is key to our nations success and IronCAD plans to deliver the software tools that let students focus on the principles of design rather than spending their time learning how to operate a CAD system".
