ISA Expo 2004 brings back its Security Forum on Tuesday 5th October at 1145, featuring government officials and industry experts The panellists bring either a country or industry view on the hot topic: cyber security
The experts are: David Sanders, Director of Critical Infrastructure Cyber Security, National Cyber Security Division at the Department of Homeland Security; Karl Williams, Director of the UK's National Infrastructure Security Co-ordination Centre (NISCC); Elizabeth Rhodenizer, Office of Critical Infrastructure Protection and Emergency Preparedness, PSEPC (Canada); David Scheulen, Manager Industry and Government Relations, DCT Digital Security, BP; and the moderator, Eric J Byres, Manager of Critical Infrastructure Security Research at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
The Security forum is open to all ISA Expo delegates in Room 301 at the Reliant Centre and is expected to draw a crowd of 500.
Byres kicks off the special forum, "Automation systems - an Achilles' heel to our critical infrastructure", discussing how cyber attackers can impact critical infrastructures such a power, water and transportation, followed by a summary of new information on the changing nature of the threat automation systems face.
Sanders lends his insight into what the US Government is doing about the cyber security threat, and Williams and Rhodenizer add an international view on the subject.
Plus Scheulen, an expert from the oil and gas industry, will discuss how that industry is responding.
The session will end with an opportunity for all delegates to ask the panel for their perspectives on what is needed from government and other organisations to protect against a cyber security threat.
"9-11 put the emerging field of control system security up on the radar screen", said Dave Teumim, President of Teumim Technical.
"I've seen this field grow exponentially over the last few years, and ISA has been in the forefront in bringing government, industry and academic leaders to these conference sessions to share their knowledge".
An additional security forum features Dr Peter Fuhr, Chief Scientist of RAE Systems, who will discuss various perspectives on the governmental and commercial implications during the "Sensors and wireless in homeland security" forum at ISA Expo 2004 on Thursday, 7th October 2004 at 1145.
also in room 301 at the Reliant Centre in Houston, Texas.
Joining Dr Fuhr are industry experts from National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Eaton Corp, Department of Homeland Security and more.
Rounding out the security highlights is Thursday's keynoter, Gregory C Jensen, Chief Technology Officer for Saflink Corp, an industry leading champion of biometric standards, technology advocacy, and device interoperability.
This biometric technology pioneer will showcase technology in action on Thursday 7th October at 0830 in Room 301 at the Reliant Centre in Houston, Texas.
ISA Expo also features the Industrial Network and Systems Security Symposium as part of its technical conference where delegates can delve into all aspects of security.
Veteran ISA security symposium chair Robert Webb said: "In the last few years our security conferences have grown to include a veritable 'who's who' in control system security speakers and panellists".
"This year we stress sessions giving practical advice to the control system users who want to know 'What can I do today to secure my systems today?'".
Teumim, who organised the first ISA security conference in 2002, now concentrates on bringing in topics of emerging interest in the field.
