Dana Corporation's Commercial Vehicles Systems Division has invested in CADfix from ITI TranscenData to solve its CAD-to-FEA data interoperability problems.
The Commercial Vehicles Systems Division (CVSD) designs and manufactures heavy truck components in tune with Dana Corporation's "under-the-chassis and under-the-hood" focus.
The division serves some of the world's biggest and well-known truck, bus and motor home OEMs, designing and testing steer axles, drive axles, suspensions, brakes and other key components.
CVSD chose CADfix to solve data interoperability problems between its CAD system (Pro/Engineer) and FEA systems (Pro/Mechanica and Ansys).
"In order to avoid file corruption between systems, we were having to defeature CAD models to such an extent that the FEA results lacked an adequate level of accuracy", explains Dr Prasad Mangalaramanan, Lead CEA Specialist at CVSD.
"We use Iges as our neutral file format, but even that lacks the necessary level of reliability, often resulting in data corruption.
"We needed a way to mesh complex CAD components without spending too much time in defeaturing, to retain as much of the original geometry as possible and to improve the accuracy of our FEA analysis", adds Dr Mangalaramanan.
"CADfix offers us exactly what we were looking for.
Geometries that would take us weeks to mesh now take only days, and the package is very simple to use, yet powerful".
