DEXcenter decimates data exchange time

An ITI product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 3, 2004

DEXcenter allows Thales to completely automate the flow of product data among its internal users.

French electronics giant Thales is a global company serving aerospace, defence and IT markets worldwide, with operations in more than 30 countries.

DEXcenter has been deployed at the company's Guyancourt site, but interest has been sparked in several other sites following this initial success.

DEXcenter is an Internet/intranet-based system providing a convenient, reliable and secure method for translating engineering data.

DEXcenter allows Thales to automate completely the flow of product data among its internal users.

This will be expanded in the second stage of implementation to include data transmission between Thales and its customers and suppliers.

Ingetech, ITI TranscenData's partner company in France, secured the deal, which addresses the problem of engineering data exchange between Guyancourt's design department and its subcontractors or other internal departments, specifically where this data relates to Pro/Engineer.

Before deploying DEXcenter, the exchange of data was a manual process, a time consuming task equivalent in man-hours to employing two full time CAD technicians.

DEXcenter has automated the entire process an estimated time saving of 80%.

Baptiste Grigy, Support Team Manager CAD-DMU at Thales, comments: "Data exchange was becoming an increasing burden both in terms of complexity and the sheer volume of information being generated.

Now the process is automated, it's hard to believe it was ever anything else.

The seamless translation of data into Step and Iges, to meet the needs of a wide range of suppliers and colleagues, has very quickly become invaluable".

John Meaney, Sales and Marketing Director at TranscenData Europe comments: "DEXcenter is the ideal solution for companies such as Thales, which generate enormous amounts of engineering data, all of which must be reviewed by different people using different data programs.

Because DEXcenter operates behind the scenes, it soon becomes an invisible and indispensable part of company life".
