ITW Plexus are proud to have supplied structural adhesives for the first UK composite suspension bridge to span a main A road.

Manufactured by Vosper Thornycroft, Halgavor Bridge over the A30 on Bodmin Moor, completes the Sustrans route from John O' Groats to Lands End.

Plexus Adhesive MA425 was used to bond the pultruded GRP angle to the vinyl ester composite and a number of factors were important in the choice of adhesive.

The fact that MA425 has DNV approval combined with the fact that it has excellent shock resistance, will elongate up to 120% and has a long working time meant that it met the strict criteria required by Vosper Thornycroft.

MA422 was also used for bonding while on site as this has a faster working time which was required for the erection of the bridge as the road was closed for safety reasons.
