A County Durham firm manufacturing pressure sensors has measured up to the challenge of international trade - with help from UK Trade and Investment, the government organisation that provides support services for UK companies trading overseas.

Senstronics develops highly accurate and stable pressure sensors for the automotive, industrial and off-highway markets.

Rob Allaker, Sales Manager at Senstronics, said: "Our transducers are technically different from existing products available on the market.

This has led to significant interest from the Far East, North America and Europe.

Around 95% of our products are exported and our sales growth - currently at 500% year on year - has been achieved through numerous international business trips and by attending exhibitions and trade shows".

"Fast growing businesses require massive investment in process equipment as well as component inventory, so there are limited funds available for marketing.

The financial assistance offered via UK Trade and Investment's 'Your passport to export success' programme allowed us to offset some of the costs associated with developing new marketing literature.

We also created a new trade show stand and made use of UK Trade and Investment's translation service", added Allaker.

Set up in 1999, Senstronics began with a small number of development engineers in temporary accommodation at the University of Durham.

With 65 staff, the company is producing over two million thin-film pressure transducers a year at its GBP 15 million manufacturing facility at Newton Aycliffe.
