Tewkesbury-based Star Hydraulics has boosted business by 24% to GBP 1.5 million turnover following a major international sales drive assisted by UK Trade and Investment, the Government body dedicated to providing UK companies with global expertise on international trade and investment.

Star Hydraulics, designer and manufacturer of high quality electrohydraulic servo valves and ancillary equipment, joined the Passport to Export scheme to expand its overseas trade.

After receiving UK Trade and Investment funding to attend the Hanover Fair in April 2003, the company now has clients worldwide and international business is growing daily.

Sales for the financial year 2003-04 increased by 24% and the company is forecasting a further 25-28% growth this year.

Star Hydraulics joined the UK Trade and Investment funded British Fluid Power Association's stand at the Hanover Fair.

The company came away with direct sales and contact with distributors for countries as far afield as Canada, Poland, USA, India and South Korea.

UK Trade and Investment also provided funding for the company to attend the Automotive Testing Expo exhibition at Stuttgart in May this year.

As a direct result, Star Hydraulics signed a deal with a German customer to provide 20 valves and is following up further leads.

Staff from Star Hydraulics attended a Passport to Export training course in export documentation.

Barry Johnson, Business Development Director for Star Hydraulics said: "We were experiencing problems with our exports to Poland at the time".

"The course has proved extremely helpful and our team gained the skills to enable us to resolve the customs problems".

The company is now looking forward to developing business worldwide, focusing on new markets including China and South Africa.

Star Hydraulics also hopes to benefit from further UK Trade and Investment funding to attend the next Hanover Fair in April 2005.
