Stoke-based engineering company Gough and Co has won a GBP 55,000 contract in France with the help of UK Trade and Investment.

Stoke-based engineering company Gough and Co has won a GBP 55,000 contract in France with the help of UK Trade and Investment, the Government body dedicated to providing UK companies with global expertise on international trade and investment.

Gough and Co specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and service of product handling systems for the food, pharmaceutical and chemical sectors.

The contract to supply an elevating and classifying system to French company Stradia is a direct result of Gough and Co's attendance at the Process VRAC material handling trade show in Lyon in February this year.

Stephen Harding, Managing Director of Gough and Co said: "We gained this contract as a result of a contact made with Stradia, a manufacturer of chemicals for water treatment, at the Lyons exhibition".

"We would not have attended the exhibition if we hadn't identified it under UK Trade and Investment's Passport to Export programme".

"As part of the programme, we put together an overall marketing plan which also included the appointment of a French agent".

"Our UK Trade and Investment international trade advisor visits us regularly and keeps us up to date with all new initiatives and developments overseas that might be useful to us".

"Overall, we have found trade shows an excellent way of showcasing our products and gaining important new leads".

"For a small company such as ours, the support and advice supplied by UK Trade and Investment and the team at the Staffordshire Chamber, has been extremely valuable and has helped to secure the continued success of the company".

"We have recently designed and are manufacturing a number of storage and distribution production lines for customers in the UK and overseas, increasing our export sales to more than 30% of turnover this year." Gough Engineering was originally set up in Hanley in 1940 but after running into difficulties, the company was reformed in 2002.

Since then, the company has increased its workforce to 40 people and with an expanding client base, is looking forward to a profitable future at its new Stoke-on-Trent premises.
