Mining group acquires testing company

An Intertek product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 20, 2007

The acquisition of NTEL complements Intertek's existing global minerals services, network and capacity.

Intertek's Mineral Services group has acquired Northern Territory Environmental Laboratories (NTEL).

NTEL provides analytical testing and sample preparation services to mining, ore and mineral companies and government regulatory bodies in the far north of Australia.

NTEL carries out testing in one centralised laboratory facility.

This provides clients with expertise "under one roof" and enhanced quality control.

The acquisition of NTEL complements Intertek's existing global minerals services, network and capacity.

Intertek provides analytical services to the world's mineral, ore and mining industries with facilities in Indonesia, China, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Brazil and North America.

NTEL offers sample preparation and analytical testing services for metals including uranium, rare earth and base metals.

NTEL operates a laboratory in Darwin.

John Fowler, Intertek Regional Manager for Minerals Asia, said, "The acquisition of NTEL broadens Intertek's regional coverage in Australia and is a positive step in Intertek's goal to be the recognised leader for minerals analytical testing in Asia Pacific".

"The NTEL business complements the existing Intertek Genalysis facilities".

"Customers will greatly benefit from this addition in another strategic location".

"Acquiring NTEL expands Intertek's capability to meet growing global demand for mineral testing services, and brings further value to our mining, exploration and production customers".

Alastair Inglis, NTEL Managing Director, said, "Working together with Intertek will enable NTEL to expand its services in the far north of Australia".

"The focus on high-quality analysis and customer service fits well with the NTEL business philosophy".

"We look forward to working with the Intertek management to incorporate our state of the art facilities into the global services network".

"The combined company will enable us to take our business to another level, offering more comprehensive services to the mining and exploration community".
