Linear displacement sensor handles varied jobs

An Ixthus Instrumentation product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 5, 2008

The KD-2306 linear displacement sensor can measure both ferrous and nonferrous metal targets with a measurement resolution as small as 0.05um

Ixthus Instrumentation has released a high-precision, noncontact linear displacement measuring instrument from Kaman.

The KD-2306 can measure both ferrous and nonferrous metal targets with a measurement resolution as small as 0.05um and can perform through nonmetallic substrates such as glass or plastics.

Eddy current sensors are a cost-effective alternative for LVDTs, air gauges, dial indicators and micrometer measuring systems.

They offer long life and extremely low-maintenance operation.

The KD-2306 has a frequency response of up to 50kHz, ensuring high-speed data capture for dynamic, high-accuracy displacement measurement applications.

For straightforward installation, the din-rail mounted signal conditioning electronics module has all features fully accessible from the front of the unit, including screw terminal I/O connectors with provision for synchronised multiple channel use and both course and fine potentiometers for zero, gain and linearity recalibration.

The range includes a choice of over 30 dual and single-coil sensors, in shielded or unshielded designs for precision measurement from 0.5 to 60mm with 0.01% FS resolution and linearity to 1% FS.

Sensors can be selected for operation in temperatures ranging from cryogenic to +200C and are available with integral or removable cables up to to 4.5m long.

The KD-2306 also features high-gain analogue, DC or 4-20MA outputs in single ended, bipolar or differential configuration.

Standard options are available for extended sensor cable length, temperature compensation, nonstandard range measurement, redundancy managed control systems and other application-specific modifications can be included to suit the customers' requirements.

Sensors are supplied pre-calibrated with full traceable records.
