The Wonderware InTouch human-machine interface (HMI) software is the first industry-leading HMI to support the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system.

The Wonderware InTouch HMI software is designed for industrial automation, process control and supervisory monitoring environments.

Wonderware also plans to provide complete pen and annotation support for tablet operating systems in its advanced plant intelligence monitoring clients, such as ActiveFactory reporting and analysis tools by the end of the first quarter of 2004.

InTouch 8.0 and ActiveFactory software are part of Wonderware's FactorySuite A2 product series, which provides factory automation solutions based on Invensys' ArchestrA software architecture.

"In keeping with Wonderware's reputation for offering leading-edge technology, the company is continuing its efforts to provide customers with software supporting the latest Microsoft operating systems as quickly as possible", said Renee Robinson, Product Marketing Manager for Wonderware visualisation products.

"Wonderware was the first company to pioneer the use of the Windows platform in industrial automation in 1989, and our strategy has always been to keep pace with Microsoft technology".

Deploying InTouch software on a tablet PC will enable customers to increase mobility throughout a plant while maintaining control of their processes.

Tablet PCs enable users to interact with the display in a manner that is similar to writing on a tablet.

The InTouch HMI has also been enhanced to support the new tablet PC features, providing additional versatility to the end user.

"The ability to leverage tablet PC features in the InTouch HMI will enable Wonderware customers to increase productivity and work collaboratively in new ways", Robinson said.

"When users identify either a potential problem or a new opportunity, they can circle it, annotate it and immediately send it to colleagues - promoting effective team co-ordination and accelerated results".

Wonderware InTouch software provides visualisation for plant-centric, operator-centric manufacturing information systems that share information within and between plants.

The InTouch HMI is in use in more than 180,000 installations around the world, in a variety of vertical markets including food processing, oil and gas, automotive, chemical, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, transportation and utilities.
