JAI expands C3 Compact camera range

A JAI product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 4, 2009

JAI has announced the release of four cameras from the C3 Compact series with Mini Camera Link and Power over Camera Link interfaces.

These 1.4 megapixel cameras - CM-141MCL/CM-141PMCL (monochrome sensor) and CB-141MCL/CB-141PMCL - are suitable for machine vision, medical imaging, food sorting, plus traffic and surveillance applications.

The four cameras are designed around Sony's ICX285 2/3in progressive scan CCD (1392 x 1040 pixels) for excellent sensitivity and spectral response.

This sensor uses its 6.45um pixel size and improved microlens technology to provide higher overall sensitivity (as low as 0.03 lux) with low smear characteristics.

It also features extended spectral response in the near-IR region offering roughly 4X the sensitivity of conventional sensors at a 945nm wavelength.

Through a combination of sophisticated circuit design and thermal management techniques, the cameras are said to deliver a signal-to-noise ratio of greater than 58dB, producing high-quality images for demanding imaging applications.

The cameras have been designed to offer high reliability and robustness with very long product life.

All cameras run at 30 frames per second (continuous or triggered) with full resolution.

A variety of trigger modes are provided including reset continuous triggering (RCT), which enables the camera to operate in continuous mode while awaiting a trigger signal.

Other features includes pre-set shutter speeds up to 1/10,000 a second and programmable exposures as short as 63us for capturing fast-moving objects.

The Mini Camera Link interface facilitates a small housing design - 29mm (H) x 44mm (W) x 75mm (L) - making these cameras suitable for machine vision applications with little physical space.

In addition to the Camera link interface, the cameras are also available with PoCL (Power over Mini Camera Link) utilising the Mini Camera Link connector.

With the PoCL standard there is no need for a separate power supply providing a clean one-cable solution.
