JAI launches video cameras

A JAI product story

JAI has released a line of monochrome-interlaced video cameras.

The cameras are designed to provide higher image-quality, expanded features, and increased design-flexibility for applications using traditional RS-170 (EIA) standard video interfaces.

The three models, the TM-770, TM-773NIR and TM-775NIR, are aimed primarily at defence and homeland security applications, but can be used for a variety of industrial applications.

The three cameras give designers a choice of pixel sizes and optical formats, from the 2/3in ICX422AL sensor in the TM-770 to the 1/2in ICX-428AL in the TM-775NIR and the 1/3in ICX258AL in the TM-773NIR, the latter two providing added sensitivity to near-infrared light.

With the same physical footprint for all three models, designers can find the model that fits the optics in their current system designs, or gradually migrate from one platform to the other as needs evolve.

Operating at the standard 768 x 494TV resolution(30fps), the company said the cameras provide improved image-quality compared with older interlaced models (signal-to-noise ratio >55dB) and reduced EMI emissions measured at 12dB below the maximum limit for Class A products.

A single 15-pin connector is used for power, camera-control and video output, and all camera features can be controlled via RS-232 commands over the single-interface cable.

Other features include electronic shuttering up to 1/10,000th of a second, horizontal mirror-image capability and an integrated three-axis control function which can be used to operate motorised zoom lenses, change focus and iris settings, move pan and tilt heads, or any combination of three external control circuits.

A variety of configuration options are suited to defence and surveillance applications.

The design includes auto-level control to automatically adjust gain and shutter settings during changing lighting conditions, as well as conformal coating, pixel-blemish compensation and extended temperature capability for operating in temperatures from -40C to +65C.

All three camera-housings are 32(h) x 42(w) x 4mm(d) and support C-mount lenses with adjustable back-focus.

Board-level versions are also available for large-quantity OEM orders.
