Reduced installation time is a major benefit, without the need for separate pack-off operations.
Tests in association with major wellhead manufacturers show that FS seal can efficiently replace conventional plastic packed seals and other hanger packers.
FS seal has been validated on rough casings in DNV witnessed tests to API 6A Appendix F, PR2 procedures at 680bar and -18 to +121C.
Full temperature capability is -29 to +177C, depending on size, pressure and material.
James Walker's Business Strategy Manager for Oil and Gas, Trevor Clarke, explains: "Our FS seal is system pressure energised.
It has been specifically developed for use between wellheads and rough casings, where it is subjected to wide ranges of temperature and pressure plus the actions of highly aggressive oilfield media.
It will withstand stab-in operations and cope with the wide tolerances and surface finish of API 5CT casing".
FS seal is precision moulded in explosive decompression resistant Elast-O-Lion 101 or 985 grades of hydrogenated nitrile - elastomers that are well known in the oil sector for their toughness, wear resistance and broadband temperature capabilities.
Excellent anti-extrusion properties are provided by two toroidal springs of stainless steel or Inconel that are securely mould-bonded into the outer edges of the primary sealing face.
This flexible construction also makes the seal easy to fit and locate in housings.
James Walker's FS seal standard range covers 28 sizes of casing and tubing from 27/8 to 30in, with all popular sizes stocked for immediate delivery.
Comprehensive ranges of Springsele and tie down lock screw packing supplement the firm's FS seal range to provide a total high-performance wellhead sealing package.
