James Walker reckons its new high specification gland packing is set to replace many abrasion resistant "yellow" products and reduce stockholding levels for end users.
Arasele, James Walker's new high specification gland packing, is set to replace many abrasion resistant "yellow' products and reduce stockholding levels for end users.
In dynamic applications, Arasele virtually eliminates the shaft wear that is created when inferior grades of aramid-based packing are used to seal highly abrasive slurries or aggressive chemicals.
This problem often arises on centrifugal and reciprocating pumps operating in the mineral, pulp and paper, wastewater and chemical processing industries.
The secret of Arasele's proven low shaft wear is in its design and construction.
It is made from fine yarns of synthetic aromatic polymer fibre that are uniformly impregnated with PTFE dispersion and braided over a white rubber core.
The result is a resilient high performance packing that is nonstaining and kind to shafts.
Explained James Walker's top compression packings expert, Andrew Goulding: "The rubber core enables the packing to absorb the eccentric actions of shafts and rams that run out-of-true".
"It also provides swift recovery from thermal and pressure shocks or cycling".
"In addition, the tough polymer yarn braiding contains an inert silicone-free lubricant for low friction operation and ease of running in".
Compatibility with fluid media of pH 1-13 gives Arasele better chemical resistance than "yellow" aramid gland packings.
The temperature range is also wider at -50 to +288C.
In rotary pumps, it works at up to 20m/s or 25bar.
Its limits in reciprocating pumps are 1.5m/s or 100bar; and it seals valves stems at up to 150bar.
Arasele is also easier to cut and install than traditional aramid-based packings, and offers a longer, low maintenance working life.
It is supplied ex-stock boxed in 8m coils and in all standard cross sections to fit valves and pumps.
Mould formed rings and sets are also available.
