Marine transportation subsidiary established to focus on the supply of fluid sealing products and associated services to the marine transportation sector worldwide.

James Walker Marine Transportation (JWMT) has been established to focus on the supply of fluid sealing products and associated services to the marine transportation sector worldwide.

Its marine industry sealing experts operate through James Walker Group's global network of companies and distributors that already sells to over 100 countries and around 1000 ports handling all types of vessel.

James Walker Group Chairman and Chief Executive Peter Needham said: "Our sealing products are used extensively by the marine sector - from small work boats and barges up to the largest tankers, ro-ro ferries, cruise liners and bulk carriers".

"We have created JWMT to ensure that all levels of marine operation around the globe get the very best possible service that we can provide".

JWMT aims to establish long-term partnering contracts with major marine operators for the global supply of products under fixed pricing structures.

It will support ships at sea, ship builders, repairers and chandlers, as well as tank container cleaning stations, operators, manufacturers and repair depots.

Because most customers in this sector rely heavily on e-commerce and e-catalogues, James Walker has invested significantly in IT infrastructure to meet global logistical demands with its fast-track service.

It maintains a library of charts giving details of items against OEM part numbers for various separators, compressors and diesels.

Marine-oriented products include Metaflex spiral wound gaskets, sheet jointings, Walkersele radial lip seals, Tankatite tank lid seals, gland packings, expansion joints, bellows and hydraulic seals.

Tico pipework supports and Treadmaster anti-slip deck coverings are also manufactured within the group.

For the tank container industry, James Walker has developed Fluolion PTFE-based products, such as the Halo manlid seal and high specification gaskets.

On the engineering side, all makes of pump, valve, mechanical seal and hydraulic equipment are refurbished to good-as-new condition by workshops in the Netherlands, Singapore and UK.

James Walker technologists also work closely with the design engineers of marine equipment manufacturers to develop sealing products that can be used in all areas of marine activity.

The group has been a supplier of sealing products and services to commercial and naval fleets since its foundation by Scottish engineer James Walker during the 1880s in a warehouse near London Docklands.

His Lion Brand high-pressure steam packing proved vital to the success of high efficiency steam engines and pumps, and set his engineering accessories business on the path to a future in fluid sealing products and materials technology.

Before Walker's development work, few companies had applied engineering science to the design and manufacture of gland packings.

Golden Walkerite high-pressure jointing followed a few years later.

Today, thousands of vessels rely on James Walker's fluid sealing technology and fast-track service to keep them operational.
