Available from JBJ is the Seim range of volumetric, self-priming screw pumps which are designed to handle oils and other liquids with minimum lubrication.

This intrinsically reliable and efficient design comprises three epicyclic screws which rotate inside a casing.

Both the screws and the casing are manufactured to tight tolerances, thus forming sealed chambers.

In operation, this displaces the liquid in the direction of the pump axis.

The computer-generated screw profile, along with corresponding idler spindles, ensure that the fluid flow is smooth and laminar, leading to extremely low noise levels, even at high rotational speeds.

Quoted figures at 2900rpm are in the range 56-72dB(A), according to pump dimensions.

A range of over 30 models covers delivery flow rates from 3 to over 5000 litres/min, when operating at 30bar (435psi) and 50cSt kinematic viscosity at rates between 1450 and 3500rpm.

Performance charts are available which detail the performance of the pumps across a wide range of pressures and with fluids of various viscosities.

In all, the pumps are suitable for use with a wide range of fluids up to a viscosity of 4000cSt.

These include hydraulic oils, lubricating oils, diathermic oils, fuels oils, oil-water emulsions containing at least 3% oil and water-glycol emulsions.

They also work efficiently at low temperatures, down to -20øC.

Typical applications are for lubricating systems in speed variators, turbines, paper mill machines and hot forming machines.

Here, a special design is available for systems having entrained air in the lubricant.

Lubrication systems used in deep hole drilling, pipe boring and chip conveyors utilising this range of screw pumps can also have a cooling function.

The screw pumps are manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001.

Seim has over 20 years experience in screw pumps and produces about 35,000 pumps every year for various industrial sectors, with a dominant position in hydraulic units for elevators.

But the pumps are equally suited to applications in driving machine tool bed traversing systems, hydraulic presses, rolling mills, sheet metal machines and injection moulding machines.

Other uses are in mobile filtering systems, heat exchangers and process plant washing and purging systems across a wide range of industries.
