A Jiskoot oil sampling system has provided a reliable and compact replacement for an old autosampler, at a Teesside plant, which receives unstable crude oil from offshore platforms by pipeline and produces stabilised crude oil and natural gas liquids for export by ship.

The system includes a 210 sample probe fitting into a 36in pipeline containing low vapour pressure stabilized crude oil, a cabinet assembly with two PR53 receivers having IATA/DOT certificates and an EX-SC9 sampler controller certified for use in Zone 1 hazardous areas to EExd IIB T6.

The whole system complies with the Pressure Equipment Directive and the NORSOK I-105 Fiscal Measurement Manual, a Norwegian initiative to reduce development and operation cost for the offshore oil and gas industry.

An important part of this effort is to develop standards to ensure value adding and cost-effectiveness for all parties.

Another advantage in addition to increased reliability was a reduction in required field interface wiring since the Jiskoot EX-SC9 sampler controller is mounted in a self-contained cabinet.

The system is operating with a flow rate of 4500 to 5600m3/h at a pressure of 3.5 to 6bar(g) and has a flange class/rating of ANSI 300lb RF.
