Samplers improve oil measurement in Texas

A Jiskoot product story

Texas terminal installs three sampling systems to improve the accuracy of water content measurement for crude oils ranging from 2 to 200cSt.

A prominent terminal in Texas has installed three Jiskoot Co-Jetix sampling systems to improve the accuracy of water content measurement for crude oils ranging from 2 to 200cSt.

The sampling system consists of a combination of a Jetmix and fast loop arrangement.

These have been installed to replace existing in-line systems which failed the API water injection proving test.

The terminal operator plans to install a fourth Co-Jetix sampling system this year.

The systems were designed to reduce installation costs and were installed using existing tappings in the line, with only one hot tap required in each line.

The systems use the client's ultrasonic clamp-on flowmeters.

The sampling systems incorporate a Jiskoot safe area Insight controller and a Can Weigh performance measurement system with automated alarming as required by sampling system standards.

The systems have been proved in accordance with the API water proving standard.

Witnessing and certification by a third party allows the systems to be used for calculating the customs and excise duty for all crude oil coming into the facility.

The Co-Jetix system is the highest accuracy sampling system for custody transfer applications in 20 to 132cm pipelines.

It is claimed to deliver the highest return on smallest measurement uncertainty and bias of any sampling equipment available (-0.025%).

The sampling system is mounted in a 2.5 or 5cm bypass loop mounted as part of the Jetmix loop.

The main loop take-off is a quill inserted directly into the pipeline through a valve and seal housing, allowing removal under line conditions.

Flow is returned to the main pipeline upstream of the quill.

Loop velocity is sufficiently high to maintain homogeneity at all times and mounted in the receiver housing in the loop are a full-bore cell sampler, flow indicator and isolation valves.

The cell sampler isolates and discharges a grab sample directly through the bottom of the sampler into a sample receiver.
