Processor boosts vehicle-mounted multitasking

A JLT UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 13, 2008

The VMT chassis uses aircraft grade aluminium to provide a rugged and stable framework, while the outer casing uses Gore-Tex and EPDM rubber, which provides a waterproof and dust proof seal.

JLT has extended the potential of its vehicle mounted terminal (VMT) range by integrating the 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo, which offers substantial computing power for combining communications, GPS, data capture and software applications in true multitasking mode.

The VMT product range is designed to offer longevity in the field and maximum return on investment through the use of high-grade materials, resistance to extremes of temperature, shock and vibration, moisture and dust ingress, as well as eradicating external moving parts.

The VMT chassis uses aircraft grade aluminium to provide a rugged and stable framework, while the outer casing uses Gore-Tex and EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) rubber, which resists chemical attack and provides a waterproof and dust proof seal.

All models are subjected to strict testing including water jetting to IP67, humidity, vibration, shock and exceeds MIL STD 810F, the most demanding engineering standard for mobile devices set by the US Department of Defense.

JLT VMTs provide a form factor and screen size suitable for any application - screens range from 10.4 to 15.1in.

Existing users include military, emergency services, logistics and warehouse management, mining, forestry, waste management, public transport, general construction and intelligent building construction and manufacturing.

"The addition of dual-core processing provides energy-efficient performance, boost productivity and open up the possibility to develop more user-friendly software applications".

"This is an exciting development that provides a major step forward for in-vehicle computing applications", says Mark Muslek, Managing Director of JLT in the UK.
