Air compressors power innovative tattoo needles

A Gast Group - Jun-Air product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 27, 2008

The JUN-AIR range of oil-free compressors offers a combination of low noise levels, reliability, long life and low maintenance.

Airchannel has supplied three of Gast Group's oil-less JUN-AIR OF302 air compressors to a Derbyshire-based tattoo studio to operate a new "needle" system, which is believed to be the first of its kind in the UK.

The new tattoo system differs from conventional electrical versions by using compressed air to power the hand pieces.

This has significantly reduced the size and weight of the pen, which is now no bigger than a typical highlighter and has a much better centre of balance.

It is also believed to give a more accurate and better defined tattoo.

Having purchased and tested one system, the tattoo studio bought a further two from the US.

However, they were supplied with compressors that were too small and of the wrong voltage and at this point, Airchannel - one of the Gast Group's principal distributors - was called in to advise on correct replacements.

"Although the head does not come into contact with the skin, we felt that an oil-free compressor would be the right choice" says Airchannel's Sales Manager Martin Ridgard.

"We specified three JUN-AIR OF302-25b compressors which, thanks to their quiet operation, were installed in the same room as the operator and equipment".

He goes onto say that thanks to the Gast Group's ex-stock policy and overnight delivery, the three JUN-AIR compressors were delivered and installed within three to four days.

The JUN-AIR range of oil-free compressors offers a combination of low noise levels, reliability, long life and low maintenance.

With decibel ratings as low as 47-55dB(A) when housed in an attractive soundproof cabinet, models in the oil-less range have the lowest noise levels available, making them suitable for installations on or near individual workstations.

To ensure the highest air quality throughout the lifetime of the oil-less compressor range, receivers are internally powder-coated to avoid corrosion.

Adsorption dryers remove moisture to ensure 100% dry, clean oil-free compressed air, with pressure dewpoints of -40 and -70C.

The dryer is located upstream of the receiver so the receiver only stores dry air.

Units feature a cooling system and wear-resisting piston rings and are designed for 100% continuous operation up to 10bar maximum pressure.
