Drives show joins four others

A DFA Media product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 16, 2005

The Drives and Controls exhibition is collocating in 2006 alongside four major engineering events.

The Drives and Controls exhibition is collocating in 2006 alongside four major engineering events: MACH, the manufacturing engineering exhibition; Subcon, the engineering subcontracting exhibition; AirTech, the compressed air event; and Electrex the long-standing electrical show.

Drives and Controls, AirTech and Electrex all being organised by DFA Media, whereas MACH is being organised by the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) and Subcon is being organised by Centaur Exhibitions.

All the events are being held at the National Exhibition Centre from 16th to 18th May 2006, with MACH running for two extra days from 15th to 19th May.

It has long been argued that the UK needs a broad event that brings together all of the key aspects of manufacturing engineering.

However, previous attempts to deliver a combined show have largely faltered - possibly because it is important to have discrete shows focused very specifically on their own core audiences.

The collocation of the various shows at the NEC next May means that each will retain its identity and distinct coverage, while presenting the visitor with a much broader range of things to see and do.

DFA Media's Ian Atkinson commented: "It has been a complicated process to establish the logistics of hosting such a variety of large and important exhibitions at one venue and at the same time of year".

"But, we have enjoyed an incredible level of cooperation between the organisers and the NEC and all of us share a common belief in the concept of staging such an ambitious single event".

The MACH and Electrex shows have a long history spanning decades and have provided the launch platforms for many of the greatest engineering innovations over the years.

The Drives and Controls and Subcon shows have also become firmly established "must see" events over the past decade and a half.

AirTech is a new show that will sit very comfortably alongside the MACH and MACHplus exhibition and will display a range of compressed air technologies related to the automation, production engineering and MRO environment.
