Sir Bobby Charlton CBE will officially open Drives and Controls, Electrex, AirTech and the National Electrical and Electronics Directives Conference at the NEC on 16th May 2006.

One of the all-time football greats Sir Bobby Charlton CBE will officially open Drives and Controls, Electrex, AirTech and the National Electrical and Electronics Directives Conference (NEEDS) at the NEC Birmingham on 16th May 2006.

The event, which will take place just three weeks before the World Cup kicks off in Germany, will see the coming together of all the major UK manufacturing and engineering trade shows for the first time.

Up to 40,000 visitors are expected at the shows including the other key colocated events: MACH, Subcon and Product Development.

Ryan Fuller, Director of DFA Media, the organiser of Drives and Controls, Electrex, AirTech and NEEDS, commented: "We are delighted that Sir Bobby will be officially opening our shows".

"With 106 England caps to his name, is an undisputed sporting icon and is synonymous with the highest standards of sportsmanship and integrity".

The exhibitions open their doors to visitors at 1000 BST.

Sir Bobby will then officially open proceedings at 12 noon in the VIP lounge, where he will welcome everyone to the shows before visiting a number of exhibitors on their stands and chatting with visitors.

Two pairs of VIP tickets to a premiership match at Old Trafford, together with England shirts signed by Sir Bobby himself, will be given away in a daily prise draw held in the VIP lounge.

To enter the draw, visitors will be required to place their business card/details in a box on the exhibition stands of prise draw sponsors Upower and Tempa Pano (Electrex Stand D68 and Drives and Controls Stand E216).

Only visitors who attend the exhibitions in person will be eligible to enter the daily draw.

Sir Bobby will pick the winning entries on the opening day in person.
