Kavlico offers dual-channel pressure sensor

A Kavlico product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 7, 2009

Kavlico, a global business unit of Custom Sensors and Technologies (CST), has introduced a dual-channel pressure sensor that can measure pressures up to 4,000psia or 275 bar.

The 6.5oz aluminium housing has been designed to minimise weight, while the small footprint reduces cabling requirements, cost and installation time, as only one sensor is required for two measurements.

Using Kavlico's media-isolated, oil-filled, piezo-resistive (PRT) sensing technology, the sensor is capable of operation in harsh, flight-critical environments with a typical MTBF of 300,000 hours at nominal operating temperatures.

Each of the channel pressures are independent of one another, allowing the channels to be calibrated with different pressure outputs for each, based upon the application-specific requirement of the aircraft platform.

Burst pressure is nearly two times the URL and the operating temperature is -67F to 257F.

Operating on a supply voltage of 5 to 15V DC, the sensor provides a non-amplified 0-100mV output at 10V DC excitation.

Sensor accuracy is +/-1 per cent of full-scale output (FSO) over an operating temperature range of 0 to 200F.

Typical applications include landing gear and control surface hydraulic systems, as well as oil and fuel systems for commercial, civil and regional, and military aircraft.

Custom pressure ranges and an amplified output of 0.5V to 4.5V DC with a power supply of 7V to 16V DC are available for high-volume OEMs.
