Kavlico introduces exhaust backpressure sensors

A Kavlico product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 19, 2009

Kavlico, a Custom Sensors and Technologies (CST) company, is offering a line of emission sensors for measuring exhaust backpressure.

The sensors are claimed to aid in maximising engine performance and efficiency.

These high-accuracy sensors can withstand operating temperatures from -15C to +125C.

Protecting the engine from damage due to overpressure situations in systems with or without a diesel particulate filter (DPF), Kavlico's exhaust backpressure sensors provide diagnostic information to the engine control unit (ECU) for the regeneration of the DPF.

The company's proprietary ASIC architecture, calibration and compensation methods, along with the ceramic capacitive-sense element, make these sensors suitable for operation in exhaust environments where there are severe vibration and caustic soot and acids.

The sensors feature stainless-steel housings and operate on 5VDC power supply, providing a linear amplified analogue output of 0.5VDC to 4.5VDC proportional to pressure.

The available pressure ranges are (0-5.80 PSIG and 0-7.975 PSIG or 0-400mBar and 0-500mBar).

The low-power-consumption, humidity-tolerant sensors are also EMI/EMC protected, exhibit low hysteresis and have short-circuit and reverse-polarity protection.

Kavlico exhaust backpressure sensors can be custom configured with application-specific electrical and process connections to suit each original equipment manufacturer's requirement.

Customised pressure ranges, outputs, accuracy and packaging are also available.
