Summators keep track of metering data

A Kenda Electronic Systems product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 19, 2003

Kenda Electronic Systems has installed operational metering summator equipment at the Hunterston and Torness nuclear power stations in Scotland.

Following the award of a contract from British Energy last year, Southampton-based Kenda Electronic Systems has installed OMS (operational metering summator) equipment at the Hunterston and Torness nuclear power stations in Scotland.

The Kenda OMS units are linked directly to the genset performance monitoring system (GPMS) at each site and will provide British Energy with real-time metering data for trading purposes.

The installation of the OMS units brings Hunterston and Torness into line with British Energy's power stations in England and Wales, where similar Kenda equipment has been operating since before the inception of NETA (New Electricity Trading Arrangements).

According to British Energy Project Manager Jag Mehta, Kenda was chosen to supply the OMS equipment: "because of the company's recognised expertise in this area and its knowledge and familiarity with our metering system, interfaces and station work processes".

As well as supplying two pairs of OMSs for each site, Kenda also installed additional MIIU interposing relays to increase the number of meter pulse outputs available.
