Kenda upgrades RWE metering system

A Kenda Electronic Systems product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 26, 2009

Kenda Electronic Systems has upgraded the metering system at the RWE npower oil-fired power station at Fawley in Hampshire, UK.

As part of the process of bringing a 500MW generator and two 17.5MW open-cycle gas turbines back into service, Kenda was awarded a contract to build, install and commission a complete CoP 1 standard metering cubicle.

Based around the latest generation of four-quadrant intelligent meters, the cubicle provides metering for the reconfigured system including two new unit transformer circuits that have been added.

'We have made a number of substantial changes at Fawley,' said RWE npower electrical engineer Jason Milsom.

'Kenda has assisted us by integrating the new equipment into the existing metering structure in order to avoid expensive recabling work,' he added.

Specifically, Kenda was able to link the new meters to the existing Meteor tariff outstations, as well as providing signals for use by the National Grid Company in its grid monitoring system at Wokingham.

Kenda was awarded the contract for the Fawley upgrade following the success of a similar project at RWE npower's 140MW open-cycle gas-turbine power station at Cowes.
