EMC backshell has screens separating earth points

A KEC product story

KEC has modified a standard EMC backshell for circular connectors to supply a system capable of taking individual and overall screens to separate earth points while providing high levels of EMC

KEC, the Aldermaston based EMC interconnect specialist, has modified a standard EMC backshell for circular connectors to supply a compact and simple system capable of taking individual and overall screens to separate earth points while providing high levels of EMC.

Previously, dual earth connector systems could only be effected by pigtailing each core to separate pins, a method that was time consuming, cumbersome and costly.

Both the dual function KC 2100 and single function KC 2300 backshells use the proven IRIS spring technology for overall screening and a tube and braid kit for individual screening.

This combination provides EMC performance to TEMPEST levels.

The modified versions, the KC 2100/2300 (SEP), are fitted with an additional heat shrink for separating the screens.

With the new system, the outer jacket is stripped to expose the overall braid that is, in turn, peeled back to expose individual screened wires.

The cores are then stripped of insulation to expose the individual braids and a length of knitmesh braid is wound so that it is in contact with all the cores.

At this stage a piece of equipment wire is trapped within the mesh bundle.

This equipment wire is used to take the individual screens to an earth level via a spare contact.
