Sensors aid low-pressure injection moulding

A Kistler Instruments product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 12, 2004

A new range of high-resolution sensors is ideal for mould cavity pressure measurement.

Low-pressure techniques such as injection-compression moulding, foaming and in-mould decorating have been gaining in importance as methods for enhancing injection-moulding processes.

Industrial application of these techniques, however, is more complex than standard processes.

Mould cavity pressure measurement provides practical help for mould sampling, large-scale production monitoring or for quality documentation.

To meet the special requirements of low pressure moulding techniques, Kistler has developed new sensors with a resolution four times higher than standard sensors and with a measurement range of 0 to 200bar.

With front diameters of 2.5 and 4mm, the new sensor dimensions are equal to those of standard sensors allowing existing moulds to be easily upgraded.

The sensors are use with single-wire technology and are compatible with standard cables and charge amplifiers, allowing major savings in mould engineering and maintenance.

The sensors with product numbers 6177AE (front diameter 4mm, sensitivity 45pC/bar) and 6178AE (2.5mm, 10pC/bar) are available now.
